Matt Gaetz just withdrew from the AG nomination. I largely suspect this was a coordinated effort between Trump and DeSantis to get rid of the insufferable Gaetz. Those of us in the weeds of Florida politics know Gaetz to be an insufferable, back stabbing, scumbucket. Trump's research team knew this, too.

Did Trump just politically assassinate Gaetz

The more I think about the Matt Gaetz selection, the more I think this was a trap set by Trump to get rid of Gaetz while simultaneously screwing with the DOJ.

Gaetz is pretty much a lowlife, self serving, scumbag. He is well known in Florida's political circles as being one of the worst creatures. No one loves a camera more and does less when the cameras are off. Those who think his embrace of so called White Nationalists makes him "based," have not been paying attention to Gaetz. This is the same man who was best friends with Florida's version of Jeffrey Epstein (Joel Greenberg). He has done more harm to the DeSantis team than any one person - such as withholding funds from Florida when DeSantis reopened the state during the Plandemic.

The Ohio delegation (Vance's home Representative, no less) said Gaetz is an insufferable character who "breaks things and then breaks them again for no reason." The fact that Gaetz essentially quit the day Trump announced the selection speaks to his narcissistic tendencies. He might get a recess appointment, but it's unlikely for an AG. I think Trump knew this about Gaetz.

I suspect that DeSantis will probably do a couple of things in the next few days. One, he will likely give the Gaetz seat to a DeSantis-Petronis loyalist (part of their hardcore trad Catholic-Orthodox inner circle). Second, I think DeSantis plans to take the vacating Rubio Senate seat and install Ashley Moody or Jeanette Nunez as Governor. More likely, Nunez. Third, when DeSantis gets done with those moves, Trump will withdraw Gaetz as part of a deal with new Senate Majority leader Thune. If that happens, watch as Moody is tapped for AG.

Ashley Moody is the same FL AG that is investigating the illegal home invasion of Mar-a-Lago by the FBI. In fact, she has gone as far as preparing arrest warrants for FBI agents involved in the raid. Moody is also investigating the Secret Service's failure to protect Trump with the second assassination attempt AND leading an investigation into anti-Trump bias by FEMA.

Gaetz is all talk, no action. Moody would rip the DOJ from the inside out. Trump endorsed her in 2022 and she is very loyal to both Trump and DeSantis - likely the next junior Senator from Florida.
