    Happy Thanksgiving my friends
Sometimes I wish I had a Harry Potter's wand and make people go up into smoke.

I get a few invites to which I explain what my traditional Turkey Day is all about to me For a good 30 years I was stuck working Thanksgiving Day. Of the 36 years I was a retail meat cutter Thanksgiving was just an insane amount of work. The amounts of turkeys alone that we handle is mind numbing. Frozen are not a critical as fresh as if you over order the are gone by Christmas. Fresh generally meant a lot of helping out the other stores in the company either delivering or pick up what they over ordered. Then there are all the other specials that people eat instead of turkeys.

Thanksgiving seemed to bring out the dumbest people who were first timing it or just plain ignorant about cooking in general. The only saving grace was the hot chicks who were clueless about preparing a meal or what side to make. The general questions asked every year just became more bizarre.

So seeing as I worked a good 30 years worth it meant never getting to spend it with the wife's family. That for me was fine, but my wife caught hell as her family couldn't believe I had to work it. Her family are the type of people who end up making trips to the store several times on holidays, and that's a big reason people like me have to work them. My tradition was working the day until I got off and spending what was left with the dog and we always ate really great. I remember one year buying 6 racks of lamb for half price as they were going out of date and eating them with my American Bulldog Bobo. That year the wife had one of the worse turkey days ever as her father was on her about me working. When she got home basically in tears to the house smelling of roasted lamb with garlic & rosemary she was really upset, to have missed out on the feast I had compared to the crappy store bought holiday box meal, that her aunt always served.

Happy Thanksgiving to all the stalwarts here at the Bunker! The wife and I are hosting as usual with eight people expected for dinner. It should be entertaining: one BIL is a staunch pro-Trump man and 2nd Amendment supporter, while the other is a diehard democrat. I'm going to try to be hospitable to all but if the vino & bourbon grab ahold of me I might have to stick the needle into my commie in-law. 😁

Our kids and grands came over yesterday for our holiday meal together, since that was the day all of our schedules matched. Today is about relaxing for me.
Hope y'all have a great day, no matter what your plans are.
