I figured I’m getting closer to going out at night to shoot a few hogs at a neighbors place. Seeing as I have old school night vision versus a thermal I’ll need the laser along with the Aimpoint set to a night vision setting.[/QUOTE]
Do you think thermal is better for night hunting under 100 yards?Comment

I have had passive night vision to the point that even if it was better I'm not changing what I have. I guess if you are only sitting stationary, and don't mind lifting your rifle to scan that's great. I know lots of people with under $1K thermals that kill hogs.
I can put on my helmet turn on the PVS-14 turn on the laser so it operates off the pressure switch and move about. I can see where I'm going and what is moving and my rifle can be slung over my shoulder or setting next to me. When it comes time to shoot I can shoulder my rifle ans look thru my Aimpoint or if I want light it up with the laser and shoot from the hip.
By the time all of our troops have switched to thermal or hybrid thermal/passive I'll be dead. Only way I'd buy a thermal at my age is if I ht the lotto and bought a $10K Trijicon.
