I have contemplated this exact question. In 2007 Barack 0bama was a candidate in the democrat primary for POTUS and a US senator. He was not yet the candidate and did not yet qualify for secret service coverage. He came to a community college in the municipality that I worked in as a police boss to give a stump speech with numerous dem politicians. I was assigned to coordinate with Illinois State Police to establish a protective detail. It has crossed my mind in passing that if I had known then what I know now...you get the drift.
