CNN Settles Defamation Suit for Smearing Navy vet

A Florida jury on Friday awarded Zachary Young, a security consultant who said the story destroyed his business and reputation, $5 million after a nine-day defamation trial, The Washington Post reporter Jeremy Barr, who was onsite for the trial, reported. Following the verdict, a settlement was reached to resolve the entirety of the case before jurors calculated punitive damages, which is intended to punish malicious conduct and could’ve added millions more to the total award, for an unspecified amount.

The guy was charging $10,000 to extract people from a hot zone, and CNN called that "extortion" and "exploitation". By the time you deduct air fare and other travel expenses, bribery cash reserves, and costs for a few men to back you up the guy was barely turning a profit. All this while risking his life.
