I've got other stuff to do but..

I've just been playing with my little laser machine. My wife and daughter love it because everything I've made so far has been for them.

I already had some purpleheart wood so I made these first.

Then I ordered some more wood and made these. From top. 1 Osage orange with padauk inlay, 2 osage orange, maple, and padauk, 3 padauk with maple inlay. PXL_20250127_193850282.MP.jpg

They're a lot of fun to make, just need to get better at keeping the glue off of my fingers.

I can see why you aren't doing something else. Very impressive!

Nice! You going to sell them at the Dairy Queen gift shop?

Nah, my daughter who I lovingly refer to as" my little Jew" is always trying to find a way to make some money off of me. She says she is going to sell them. I buy the material and make them and she sells them and only wants 50% of the gross.

Stopped by my sister's house last night and got measurements for her family. My brother-in-law was put on hospice care last week, he doesn't have much time left.

I got up extra early this morning and made these. They are osage orange and purpleheart wood. I will drop them off in a little bit and say goodbye.

My neighbor in Idaho had one setup to put logos on thermal cups for various bushiness and it was cool to watch it work
I have 3 setups now. All diode lasers. I started with a 5 watt Algolaser brand gantry type laser. It engraves beautifully, but doesn't have the power for cutting or stainless steel so I bought a 10 watt Algolaser. It cut leather and wood nicely, but slow. I then bought a 24 watt machine from Atomstack. The 24 watt cuts wood great and etches stainless steel nicely but has a larger spot size than the lower wattage modules so It doesn't get as fine of detail when engraving.

I am now looking at fiber lasers for metal engraving.

If I were looking to start with just one machine I would probably buy a 20 watt from Roly automation. They are known for great customer service and the 20 watt laser can be used as a 10 watt for a smaller spot size and finer detail.

They are extremely simple to operate using Lightburn software.
