Federal employees told to remove pronouns from email signatures by end of day

Employees at multiple federal agencies were ordered to remove pronouns from their email signatures by Friday afternoon, according to internal memos obtained by ABC News that cited two executive orders signed by President Donald Trump on his first day in office seeking to curb diversity and equity programs in the federal government.

"Pronouns and any other information not permitted in the policy must be removed from CDC/ATSDR employee signatures by 5.p.m. ET on Friday," according to one such message sent Friday morning from Jason Bonander, the CDC's Chief Information Officer. "Staff are being asked to alter signature blocks by 5.p.m. ET today (Friday, January 31, 2025) to follow the revised policy."

The first time I saw this pronoun nonsense in an email signature, I thought it was a joke. Then I realized, it wasn't.

At one company I worked for, I was not allowed to identify the sex of a person in official correspondence. Instead of referring to someone as "him" or "her". I had to say "the employee". It made for really weird sentences.

At another company, I had to greet a new employee during the start of an early morning shift. It turned out to be a trans-dude; essentially a man dressed as a woman. It was a very strange situation to find myself. With no warning I had to interact with this freakish person, keep a straight face and act like everything's normal.

Among employees, not a word was ever spoken about this guy's attire or mannerisms. We all just shut our mouths, feigned acceptance, and collected our pay checks. One wise crack would send you to HR and possibly exposed the company to legal action. Over time, I got used to it actually worked well with the guy. But every moment I felt like I was walking on egg shells and had to watch my words. Same goes for working alongside some minorities or females.

My employer is a big time backer of the DEI crap. We have no shortage of freaks we have to tolerate. I simply avoid interactions with them to the extent possible. My boss knows I'm just one email away from saying fuck it and retiring.

Curious to see what change if any comes about with these federal mandates as we are a federally funded organization, at least 40%, operating a government owned facility.

I bet the farm military recruitment and the general interaction of people in the workplace will be a 100% better if people don't have to walk on egg shells wondering WTF to call the guy dressed like a chick working alongside you is?
