I retired January of this year. I purposely waited until Jan 05, 2025 instead of retiring late last year to be eligible for my bonus and vacation pay. Between my vacation pay and bonus the amount was over the annual maximum income allowed by SS. After some research I found they will penalize me $1.00 for every $2.00 I went over. I thought okay I can handle that. Then I find out they will collect by reducing my SS payments not only untill the overage is recovered but until I reach full retirement age. Instead of giving me the option to pay the overage. That amounts to 3 years of reduced payments. Anything to screw people out of their own money. Then I find out today there are non citizens receiving SS benifits that did not pay a dime into the SS fund. What a crock of shit!

Don't even get me started on SS. In doing my taxes I went through 4 different worksheets just trying to determine what portion of it was taxable. Whoever dreamed up the load of monkey shit called our federal tax code should be drawn, quartered, burned, and dumped under a load of manure. -

O.K. I am not talking about doing a tax form or dealing with that end of it. SS I don't 'think' is part of the IRS?? But here is my dealings with SS some years back.
The old girlfriend on disability with a head injury short term memory loss really could not work. She lived for and loved to work more than any damn thing. Quite the opposite of me. She was on SS 'trial work period' and was constantly going over her allowable income. She kept loosing jobs due to her memory loss.
SS would send letters like yours that their going to penalize her SS money for overage of trial work income. Those rules and decision come out of D.C.. NOT your local office. I would make an appointment at the local office and explain her case. Their penalizing her for TRYING to work. These local SS people came unglued and were as upset as I was at the insanity.
They literally pulled out all the stops and made her a deal to pay back a frigging dollar a month out of her SS check. I almost fell off the chair. They are NOT the enemy at the local office they know you worked all your life and its your money and they really really will help you. 1st make an appointment to state your case be polite and nice.
Remember D.C. made your decision not the local office. Be nice have your ducks in order and I bet you a case of beer they will help you.

I let my CPA do my taxes along with my corporate taxes, all of my SS goes back to them and more, the only reason I got it is so my Medicare ABCD and the whole alphabet gets paid from them directly, which in my case is about $400 a month. Paying a lot of taxes is a good thing, it's what they do with our tax money that's not a good thing.Sometimes I wish I had a Harry Potter's wand and make people go up into smoke.Comment

I think I may have found my out. $13,000.00 of the annual income was paid to me in January. I did not receive my first SS check until February. After some research it looks like income made prior to first check is not included in annual max.Comment

I retired at the end of last year and closed the business I owned for 24 years. Filed to start receiving my SS money back in early December of 2025. Have been emailing and talking on the phone with various SS bureaucrats for hours and have yet to receive my monthly payments.. They had no problem taking my money since 1972 but now? Back of the line, white boy.Comment
