Carbon monoxide? Murder? Suicide? Cover up? Right now all of this is pure speculation until the investigation's complete.

They will find what they are told to find. So, all we get is speculation. Better make it good.

Well known people laying dead on the floor of their home with prescription pills scattered about? Yeah I would say that sounds a bit suspicious. Just a guess on my part. Carbon monoxide slowly making them not feel to good so they go for the pills. As they get less and less coherent they start dropping things including the pills.
Finally the final big sleep. Suspicious deaths sell news accidental natural deaths don't.

Sheriff announced they had no carbon monoxide in their systems.

This is getting more investigative. Mr. Hackmans pacemaker was going off and his wife is dead a short distance from him? No cameras in the house but the police are looking into neighbors cameras to see if their was anyone about.

The dead dog was inside sadly trapped in a cage for 10 days or so aprox. with no food or water. The poor thing died of dehydration. Outside dogs I guess at least had access to water and lived.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office updated the recent mysterious death of two prominent Santa Feans on Friday, announcing that actor Gene Hackman’s wife Betsy Arakawa likely died about a week before her Oscar-winning husband.

The bodies of Hackman and Arakawa were found Feb. 26 by a security guard and maintenance man during a wellness check at the couple's home north of town.

At Friday’s press conference, officials said Arakawa, 65, died Feb. 11 from complications caused by hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare but serious respiratory illness caused by exposure to infected rodents. In New Mexico, deer mice are the primary carriers of the virus. People are typically exposed to it around homes, cabins or sheds, especially when cleaning out enclosed areas where mouse droppings might collect.

Sheriff Adan Mendoza revealed last week that Hackman likely died Feb. 18, according to cardiac data obtained from his pacemaker. On Friday, Heather Jarrell, the chief medical examiner for the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator, said Hackman, 95, died from "significant heart disease" and was in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's disease, she added. Jarrell said it's "quite possible" he was not aware that his wife died.

Its starting to add up I guess? The wife died 'heart disease' and a serious virus from rodents. Gene Hackman was in the house with his deceased wife with his advanced stages of Alzheimer's. He was sadly their with her dead body for a week not even knowing she was dead. Autopsy showed he had not eaten in a week and his bad condition heart finally gave out.
This is why their is a 7 day difference in the dates of death. I pay a local girl to clean and do laundry and she does a great job. All their money why the hell didn't they have a caretaker 'nurse' whatever around to help them? They might both be alive if they had.

                          To be clear:

Betsy died of hantavirus on 2/11.

Gene died of heart disease on 2/18.

Mr. Hackman was essentially alive for 7 days +- with his wife deceased in the home 'bathroom' with him in the home somewhere else. She was most likely getting pain medication when she collapse and it spilled everywhere. The one dead dog was in a cage having just come back from the Vet. and died of dehydration. Mr. Hackmans heart finally gave out.
Question? Why the hell with all their dollars $$ did they not have a nurse caretaker???

Its possible that the wife may been taking care of Gene just fine on her own. She just didn't foresee contracting the hantavirus. All speculation on my part of course.
