This reveals how incredibly weak Western Europe is. After the dust up at the White House, Germany and UK immediately said they were prepared to increase military spending, send troops and go it alone. Now they meet with Zelenskyy and tell him to crawl back to Trump to beg for my tax money. Why, because they cannot and will not "go it alone". They cannot and will not increase military spending or send troops. They do not have the logistic capability to move their troops and supply lines without the US, they do not have the military reserves, and their population will not give up the social welfare programs to pay for it all. Those who are not getting their 10% have been telling the Europeans to increase military spending and be prepared. This was going on as far back as Reagan. They claimed 40 years ago to be creating a European rapid reaction force--they never did. The Euro fighter took almost 40 years to develop and when it started flying was antiquated. They have been sucking our tit for so long they do not even know how to "go it alone". Even our so called allies (I now doubt we have any that we do not buy) in Eastern Europe are unable to "go it alone".

This is our leverage that none of them have and they will bend their knee. Europe does not have the power they did in WWI and WWII to drag the US into yet another of their stupid regional conflict. Since their mindset is perpetually stuck in 1938, much like the Russians and their fixation on WWII, they do not realize they have no power to back up the rhetoric.

Europe did not get their shit together after three years of war in Ukraine. They were warned in 2016 by Trump to get it together and they called him a Russian agent that likes to be pissed on by hookers. They claim an immanent invasion from Russia and are just know getting ready? Germany just barely increased their military budget to 2% and they have the largest economy in Europe. The Eastern Europeans are carrying the load in Europe, which is good. But old W Europe, with maybe France as an exception, has done little. Do not forget that in 1939 France and the USSR had the largest military's in the world. The US was ranked 17 in the world with 300,000 men in uniform. In less than three years there was 22 million men in uniform and a liberty ship was leaving dry dock every month and so much weapons and material was produced we were repurposing WWII 500lb bombs to use in the first gulf war. That is what getting ready looks like.

What Europe is doing, again except the Eastern members, is token at best. They all rely heavily on US equipment and they have only marginal heavy lift capability. Big military is fine as is expenditure but without logistics, domestic weapons systems and the will to use it, it is all useless.

The reason he is clinging to war is that peace would mean he gets replaced. That would lead to audits of all the cash and as noted above, shady sales of military aid.
