I've watched it several times. One of my favorite military movies.
I just watched "We Were Soldiers"

I never saw that movie, although I think I should. Two of my favorite war movies (and I use that term loosely) are "The Dirty Dozen" and "The Great Escape".Comment

I've heard the "retro" fad is dying down. I hope to find the parts I need to build an A1 clone when prices come down to reality. Maybe they never will, though? Of the three M16A1s I had issued to me, all of them were Hydramatics. I never got a Colt until we switched over to the A2, and the first one I got was brand new and came with a bent barrel or the barrel drilled slightly crooked - either way, it wouldn't take a rod all the way down it. I couldn't get a zero on it for anything at the range. The armorer checked the barrel, then gave me a different rifle and I was able to get a zero, then qualify Expert.Comment

Here's a Hydra-Matic for a clone, better price too, except I don't think the right side is correct unless these had the raised fence around the mag releaseLast edited by Retvet; 05-06-2025, 02:25 PM.Comment

That's neat! I won't get too wrapped around the axle about the lower, except for the pistol grip and shorter buttstock than the A2. The upper is the tricky one to find the correct parts for. Especially finding a slick side A1 upper receiver, but I think H&R/NoDakSpud/PSA has them.Comment

We set up camp their in 69. It was really kind of flat like it was in the movie where we set up RTO.. I'm sure their was mountains off in the distance but to long ago I just can't remember bud. We got a hell of a ground attack about 04:30. Called in Mr. Spooky and he took real good care of that problem.. ๐Comment

We had an operation in that area west of Plei Me. The dinks seemed to have liked to go to meet up with Buddha in that area. Speaking of Spooky (Puff) May 11, 1969 on Mothers Day LZ Oasis was attacked by a battalion of NVA and a company of sappers. They hit us from 3 sides of the LZ and managed to break through and temporarily take over bunker 22 which had a .50. I was in a few bunkers down the line. That turned into one hell of a mess until Spooky arrived, then we started winning.

BTW LZ Oasis was formerly called LZ Tuttle where the 1st Cav setup operations for the assault at LZ Xray.Comment

Talking to a few guys from my platoon back at Ft. Carson after I left the Nam. Tiger grabbed some FNG from our company on ambush and he was wide awake. Spun his 16 around and winged it it dropped him and all he had was some teeth marks he was fine but changed his underwear. I have the 4th Ivy newspaper article in my junk somewhere the guys sent me.Comment
