At least nine Thai monks have been disrobed after sleeping with an alleged blackmailing seductress who extorted them for millions of pounds.

Wilawan Emsawat, 35, was said to have enticed a string of monks to break their vows of celibacy before pressuring them into paying large sums of money to cover up the intimacy.

The scandal, which has gripped Thailand and rocked its Buddhist institutions, has sparked calls to tighten monk-related laws in order to restore faith in the religion.
