I know why that is your favorite place, even if it is a giant sandbar. The only problem is that if it gets over populated it might capsize . . . . . . . . according to Hank Johnson Jr's logic.

can't get overpopulated, it's already built up to max, no buildings over three floors with a garage on bottom, otherwise only two floors , no more land available, no outside big stores, the only one there now is CVS and that's convenient to residents, one 7-11 privately owned, Dairy Queen got destroyed by the hurricane, they are not coming back and that's about it, everything else is local. I was there what? a couple weeks ago, this is the off season, no traffic, no snowbirds, some places just close for the summer. Open this year because of construction workers on the island but it's so quiet there it's unbelievable. The area I'm in is on the north side where there are no condos only houses, There are deeded beach access areas with parking for island residents only between multi-million dollar homes, turtle nests are all over the place, if you see someone by the beach, they live there, not tourists. Everybody talks to you everybody is friendly, we all help one another...;it's called "Island Living". Better be self sufficient too, if you get a flat tire you need to go about an hour away to get it fixed, so I bought a 10 gal air compressor and a tire fixing kit, got plenty of tools there already, I've bought one of everything I have at home and took it there. Garage space under the house is full of shelves with tools and shit. Beach toys and tents, chairs, you name it. Too bad I can't say goodbye to Miami just yet (I don't think I'll ever will). I need to take a couple guns but the house sits with no one in for a couple of weeks at a time and I'm afraid of break in, besides, nothing ever happens there, you read police reports and it's either a drunk gardener or someone driving over the speed limit, that's all. We do have video cameras all around that will alert when someone walks around, basically the lawn guys every week.

Flood danger, of course. that's why the house sits 10 feet up. I called an insurance guy just for the hell of it, Sanibel?...sorry guy can't sell you insurance. This is our fifth house with no insurance. It already went through the big hurricane of 2022 and no damage, except one trail bike in the garage. I need to take it apart and see if I can fix it.

see those sticks going up from the sand? Turtle nests markers.

Beautiful area. But too many people for me. My favorite place is in the northwoods. Not many people go there.

Fishing is pretty good though, unless the big ones show up, Dolphins, whole families of them swim just a few feet from shore, you need to be careful they don't bump into you, just saw a huge manta ray about 6 feet across come up the other day.

haven't seen them but I'm sure they are closer to the mainland. I know there are manatees in a large canal behind a friends house here in Miami, he has seen them. Dolphins are a dime a dozen here and when they start chasing food you'd better get out of the way, they are big, strong and fast you don't want to get hit by one accidentally. Took that picture from a boat a couple years ago.DSC_0155.jpg

Manatees are super good eating you just have to soak the meat in buttermilk for a bit before grilling. Baby dolphin is the cats ass taste like the best steak. Bald eagles? Not much meat don't waste your time. Good feathers though for fly fishing.

The buffalo manatee flippers are the best part for me.

Fred, you have a great place to retire and pass on to the kids without much interference from the outside world.

Those turtle nest markers are all over the beaches up here at least from Fernandina to St Augustine that I know of.

Pogo my 15 ft. Bay Skiff we went out on?? The Manatees surface next to the boat and scare the dog piss out of you. This while your just sitting and fishing. Their as long as the boat and have to go damn near 1/2 a ton. They ask that people do not do it but if you take a garden hose and run it into the water in your backyard they will rest their head on the bank and drink till you think their going to explode. They love the clean water.
Lettuce? They lay their again head on the bank and take it right out of your hand. No way to fill them up you would need a dump truck full to fill em... up..

That’s the idea, pass it on to the new generation. My middle son likes boating so he got himself that place in the Keys which he’s remodeled from bottom up and has two boats a little 18’ and a 32’ for serious fishing. But he may go to Sanibel from time to time. Oldest son is on the deed too and we don’t need to rent to cover expenses so it’s a family thing. Wife and I may run out there this weekend for our 47 anniversary

All kids have keys to the place and their own bedroom. Grand kids can sleep in a sofa-bed in the den.
