After my Dad passed, my Mom gave me all his guns, which was about half a dozen. I still have them all & the ammo which impressed me greatly as a kid. When it comes time for my guns to go away, it will be a much greater transfer as I built AR's & AK's for about 22 years to excess.

There is no family left to give them to except my brother, who deserves only the ammo given to him @ supersonic speeds. He is a real POS.........

My father in law passed a couple years ago after enduring a couple years with worsening alzheimers/dementia. He was a retired cop and a gun guy. In earlier years we enjoyed the firearm hobby together. As his faculties diminished the family decided it was time. We rounded everything up and locked them up. After he passed his kids and grand kids all got to choose one.

In my situation, my mom told me she heard something about a friend who had a brother with Parkinsons (like my dad) who killed himself. My mom went into a mild panic and wanted to take my dad's last gun. I thought she was over reacting, but I'll work with her anyway. Once I went to where the gun should be, and it wasn't there, that's when I became real concerned. When dad finally told us where he moved it, it became clear to me that he didn't want us to find it. That plus his given condition made me realize that taking it from him was the right thing to do. Who knows, if his condition worsens and he asks for the gun, I might feel so bad from him that I'll give it to him (seriously doubt it, but...), if that happens it will be a conscious decision an my part, and not a result of my negligence.

We lost my father to cancer in 1997. Towards the end of his battle he was in home hospice. We had 2 nurses in the family and a hospice company. He was in significant pain and asked me to load him up with the pain meds and euthanize him. I couldn't do it. It still haunts me.

I see I am beginning to lose my grip on reality I will simply sell off my collection turning guns into cash. Might as well go out snorting blow off a hookers ass.

I inherited my father in laws substantial collection when he passed away. Most of it I gave to my sons as they were ones I had little interest in, plus it was too much more for me to store and keep up with when it comes to cleaning, etc. I've already given away about half of what I had and am still building stuff just because I can. In fact I have one final FAL kit to complete with a receiver inbound. Matching numbered Belgian. I still have other kits from the days they were flowing in tidal waves and dirt cheap compared to now.
