I hope it wasn't carrying some kind of disease.
A horse fly bit me on my leg yesterday

Horseflies are a pain in the ass but not even close to the deadliest animal 'critter' on Gods earth.
Mosquitoes cause more human deaths than any other animal, with an estimated 725,000 to over 1 million fatalities annually. These deaths are primarily due to the transmission of various diseases like malaria, dengue fever, and West Nile virus. While mosquitoes don't directly kill humans, they act as vectors, transmitting pathogens that can cause severe illness and death.

Meanwhile the horsefly went back home and told it’s family “I accidentally bit a Pogo. Hope it wasn’t carrying some type of disease !”
Seriously though, those things take their pound of flesh when they bite. God was in a bad mood when he made thos bastards.Comment

Horses hate horse flies. Wife and I had horses for about 20 years. One day, our gelding was going nuts on the pasture. A horsefly was attacking him. He ran toward me, stood perfectly still and waited for the fly to land. As if on cue, I smacked the horsefly and killed it.
Nowadays, I don't see many horseflies. This time of year it's primarily deer flies, gnats, and mosquitoes. My primary weapon against them is a ball cap with a bandana draped over the back of my neck. That protects against 95% of them as long as you stay moving.
I love to go solo camping, backpacking and canoeing. When I'm moving, the bugs aren't a problem. As soon as I'm stationary, they attack with a vengeance. Once I set up camp, the very first thing I do is start a fire. Smoke does wonders on biting insects. It's a natural bug repellent.Comment

I hate horse flies with a passion. Not only do they bite, they bite through clothing. On more than one occasion, I've been bitten through a cotton t-shirt and an underarmor style undershirt. And if you try to shoo one away, it will just get mad and keep coming after you.👍 1Comment
