When do you recommend taking Social Security payments?

I'm 61 years old, healthy, financially secure, everything's paid for, and wife and I don't "live large". In the next 6 months or so I'll need to decide if I should take SS early at age 62 or wait for a larger payout. Since many of you gentlemen have already crossed this bridge, what do you recommend?

WEll some people say as early as possible, some say wait until full retirement age, depends on your income. I should have waited even longer as I pay everything back at the end of the year.

At 49 years old, I'll probably never know.

If you wait, as long as possible,

when you die it should make your

          surviving spouse’s check larger

Thanks for the replies. I'm still on the fence but am leaning toward waiting longer. Either way, it's a good problem to have.

Put a pencil to the difference between taking it early versus waiting and then look at your life span. I took mine early because there are no guarantees for tomorrow.

I just turned 70 in June, started getting my SS last year as I wanted to max out the payments for retirement. I keep on reading/hearing on the news how SS may not be around in the next 10 years or so.

Here's a novel idea: how about if the USA does away with Welfare for parasite blacks, illegal wetbacks and methbilly whites. Make them WORK for a living like the rest of us did. I imagine this would add countless BILLIONS to the national coffers for Social Security benefits. Don't want to work? FOAD

I elected to start SS payments at 62. You just never know when you are going to drop dead. I wanted a return on my account then...because I'm 76 now and i wanna suck it dry. Im A whole lot closer to the end of the road than the beginning. That's my logic and my reasoning in re.

In any case, SS would have been WELL FUNDED if Nixon had not placed SS into the general fund where billions of $ could be stolen to fund that assholes "Great Society" of government funding for negro birth rate enhancement and thus more dimokrats.

Bingo dinky saved me some typing. 'General Fund' that is why SS is disappearing NOT because of birthrate or any damn thing else. The govt. is sucking it frigging dry. It would be just fine if they left it alone. Thanks Tricky Dick.
Take SS early with exceptions like aviator hell seen to many vets visit Jesus without getting a frigging dime.

And if we wouldn't be paying SS to a whole lot of legal immigrants who never worked a day in their lives in this country.
