So we go to Thailand and rent small motorbikes. 1/2 the country drives them. We had to have 'international' drivers licenses easily obtained in the states at say AAA where we got ours. Thailand renting the bike show your license and you have the option of getting insurance. Now you 'must' show your passport to rent.
Now you have an incident with insurance? No problema. No insurance? You WILL pay cash for all damages or you ain't leaving the country. Damage to the rented bike? Parts, labor and down time at what would be rental time that their loosing to do repairs. Repairs time goes past your visa in country date? X amount of $$ paid each day before you leave the airport.
