Katrina will go down in history as how NOT to respond to a natural disaster. It showcased government failure at all levels. It also demonstrated how truly awful human beings can be. This photo of "Lootie" is just one of many examples. The only bright spots were the actions of some private citizens taking it upon themselves to help others.

My house in Houston was way too close to the Dome where all that scum was imported into Houston. With in a day the hood rats were out tagging the surrounding area. My Benelli Entry gun came out of the safe and loaded with #4 buckshot

A neighbor of mine was hired by FEMA to go down to New Orleans to do damage assessment in the wake of Katrina. He was a commercial property appraiser for years in Chicago specializing in tall office buildings. He ended up spending almost 6 months there before he could come home. He told me it was unbelievable, especially the behavior of the Usual Suspects in regard to looting, burning, shooting, attacking whites, etc etc. There were armed groups of whites protecting / barricading the bridges going out of town into white areas and some major gun battles were fought with the savages. To this day nobody knows or acknowledges the death toll from those dustups. The media deliberately suppressed coverage that would cast the democrats running the city at the time in a bad light. The idiot mayor Nagin ended up going to prison when it was revealed he was stealing disaster relief money sent from the Feds for rebuilding.

I remember coming home after two weeks of having evacuated. Driving west through south mississippi towards my house near the state line. The closer we got to home, the worse the destruction got.
Fortunately our house survived with comparatively minor damage. Though things improved at a constant and steardy pace, there was no sense of normalcy anywhere in south MS or LA for many months. Some things have forever been changed since that time.
There have been several other hurricanes since pass over this same area. NONE have had the effect (or devastation) that Katrina brought.

As a side note, coastal Mississippi took the hit far worse than New Orleans. The cities problems (though bad in some areas) were mostly man made. MS also recovered a lot more quickly, as they didn't have mayors waiting on and begging for FEMA and federal assistance to do the work for them.

Katrina took a wrong turn and drove right over my house on the way to the Gulf of America. I remember looking at the live radar and saying "That sob is not going to turn north, shit it's turning south....sure enough, I stepped outside during the 10 minute eye and grabbed a pipe smoke, saw my next door neighbor, "Is it over yet" he asked, "well just half of it" and then wind hit full force from the opposite side, went across the state and grew large in the gulf.
