Just watched the Netflix series about the rise of Wall Street and the characters involved. J.P. Morgan, Lynch, Merrill, Kennedy, Rockefeller and the list goes on. I have no idea what is up with that? Probably digging one of those old timers at the game up and they could explain it and be turning a buck making money.
Old Joe Kennedy made mega millions off of the depression stocks. Oh he was buying while everyone was selling. He was quite simply shorting every stock he could get his hands on. He was shorting the stocks and was one of the few who spotted the simple money maker. Shorting is simply buying the stocks and betting on them going down in price not up.
While half of Wall Street was jumping out of windows he sat in his hotel room and made mega millions..

"Shorting a stock is a strategy to profit from a stock's anticipated price decline. Investors borrow shares they don't own, sell them immediately, and then buy them back later at a lower price to return to the lender, keeping the price difference as profit. This is the opposite of a traditional "long" position, where an investor buys a stock hoping its value will increase."

I don't fully understand the problem. Is this a precursor to a market crash? Break it down for me.

I'm a "simple" investor. I stick with no-load, stock index mutual funds. That's about as boring as it gets but it has worked for me. As for market ups and downs, I simply stay the course. I'm still interested in market swings, but more for how it impacts other things like real estate.
