You love of those Vietnam AK47’S
there is a Nam bring back on Sturmgewehr.com go $125K
Holy sheeeeet I need a time machine.. 😁 While not plentiful their were AKs kicking around available if one wanted them. Prior to my tour I had never seen and AK and my first impression of them were not good. Made with poor quality wood usually very very well worn 'battlefield look' as collectors like to call them I guess?
Mailing one home? Lot of heated discussions about the truth of mailings but yes if you broke it completely down to basic kit size at least with us they could be mailed. 1968 I could have mailed one and had my buds back home register it. Probably not legal but with the amount of mail coming and going the chances of it being discovered were extremely slim.
1969 saw A holes starting to mail frags, marijuana, claymores and general implements of destruction getting mailed. I think that started a bit of a crackdown rightfully so on mailed items going home. Oh well water over the damn.
But hit E-Bay and check Nam military related items for sale. Holy sheet a helmet with the cover we were issued priced at $200 to $400. Zippo inscribed lighters for a few hundred bucks. Us vets missed the boat. 😣
I was at a big militaria show by me just yesterday. A lot of the Vietnam War gear has become very collectible, both American and NVA. No AK rifles of any kind though, lol.
