Bob Hope was a big deal growing up. My dad respected him for his commitment to the troops through the USO.

Great man he spent his holidays away from his family and with the troops. Hell the V.C. even liked him.

"During a USO Christmas show at the Cu Chi military base on December 25, 1966, legendary entertainer Bob Hope performed for American troops while, unbeknownst to him, a North Vietnamese comedy show was happening directly beneath his feet in the Cu Chi Tunnels. Hope famously quipped to the soldiers of the 25th Infantry Division, "We're so close to the fighting we had to give the Viet Cong half the tickets!". Years later, it was revealed that entertainer Pham Sang was simultaneously performing for guerrilla fighters in the subterranean complex below the same stage."

Not kidding they were not near the base Hope was literally right on top of them and they could listen to his show. It was later found they could have blown the whole stage and cast up but they really did respect the man and would not have it.
