That is some dang good fishing down in that A.O. plus the whole A.O. is beautiful with wealthy peoples. Fred still ain't got back to me when I asked what is in the canals down there?

ADD: RTO I had two buddies down their Islamorada and Marathon they had houses. I used to fly down to Marathon and spend a week fishing. The good old days. 👍

We love that island and we really enjoy staying there, it cost over $2K a week to get rental if you can find one. Now it's going to be way more because of special assessments for stuff insurance didn't cover after the hurricane, we had been looking to get a place there for several years, we finally got it, it's 2.5 hours drive time and we are in a different world. We still need to reside here, sons, daughter and grandchildren are here with big jobs and business, I can run my business remote, wife is still working but can take it easier now so we'll be there on some weekends and a few weeks out of the year. All the kids got a key to the place, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths house, there is plenty of room.

That porch overlooks a segment of the Sanibel River and after that it's a wildlife preservation area, plenty of wild critters to take pictures of, from fancy birds to alligators, they have coyotes there and a Komodo dragon has been spotted, I guess someone let one go, preservation area or not I'm taking my 9mm Ruger take-down carbine with me. I've got almost 3/4 acre lot with alll kind of vegetation. But I'm excited about photographic possibilities there.

One time I was crossing alligator alley and a guy flagged me down about half way across. He had pulled off to fish in a creek the day before. And when he started to leave his car wouldn't start. He spent overnight there without a misquito net or bug spray. His face was puffed up and red from mosquito bites

I gave him a jump start and he was overcome with emotion. He was sure glad to get out of there.

Yeah that could be nasty, mosquitoes are the size of drones.... and it's swamp all around it. Now since it became part of I-75 and get federal funds they have several rest areas and a few road rangers that go up and down helping folks but at one time it was just a two lane road in the middle of the Everglades.

Looks like I'm going to be down that direction in May. Wife wants to book an Everglades airboat and swamp buggy tour out of Everglades City on Mother's Day.

There are several places along Tamiami Trail (HWY-41) that offer airboat tours. I did one when my daughter was younger, I wasn't that impressed, but then again, not much impresses me anymore. You can go all the way down to the end of Florida's Turnpike and there is an entrance to the Everglades National Park that you can drive into, I believe Pogo has been there when he came down on a fishing trip.

It is. The middle of the island is quiet, the beach is a short walk or bike ride away, private deeded beach access among multi million dollar mansions, no hotels in that area. 3/4 acre lot that backs to a canal part of the Sanibel River and a couple miles of protected wildlife area.
