    Mossberg 935 12ga....

There is no shotgun sub-forum, so I'm posting this in the rifle sub-forum....

A few years back, when my brother and I acquired my dad's guns, I came into possession of his Mossberg 935 semi-auto 12ga turkey gun. It can handle 3.5 inch loads. Even though I don't hunt, I always thought it was a cool addition to my gun safe. But the super long barrel doesn't make for a very tactical or defensive weapon. A few weeks ago, while rummaging through some things, I found the second barrel that came with the gun. Its much shorter (but still legal) and it is rifled. I assume this means that it is meant for sabot (un-rifled) shotgun slugs. Am I correct for thinking this?

Also, can other shotgun loads, like 00 buck, be fired affectedly through a rifled barrel?

I just want to know what kinds of shotgun rounds I need to start stocking up on.

There’s a YouTube vid made around Christmas 2021 named Modern Musket Balls | BPS Slugs the channel is Gear Know-How and the date is December 23, 2012. He cuts the shells open showing the projectiles and the shotgun he is using is a Black Aces Turkish semi.

      Nice shotgun. I'm jealous!

Do your own research, but the rifled barrel is only designed for sabot slugs and nothing else. I suppose you could shoot whatever you wanted through it with no harm, but I wouldn't. As for the longer barrel... Dependent upon the choke, I think you could shoot just about anything through it.

Yeah, like I said, I don't hunt anymore, so I want this gun set up for home defense or possibly an SHTF gun. So I guess 4+1 rounds of 12ga Sabot slugs in a semi-auto isn't too bad. Prior law enforcement training taught me how to combat reload. Though I'm pretty rusty on that, I need to get some practice in.

Sounds like an ideal SHTF / home defense weapon. From what I remember, not only does a sabot slug offer tremendous energy, but also "rifle-like" accuracy and range. And if you're decent at combat reloads, your magazine will never go empty. The only down-side I can see is the cost of sabot slugs. This definitely isn't a plinking weapon.

The coolest thing about it is that it used to belong to your Dad.
