Inherited some rifles I thought were gone forever.

Years ago my parents divorced, I thought my father sold most of his guns because at the time I was moving around a lot and could not really hold onto them.

One of my uncles started cleaning out my grandparents house last weekend and found several of them in a closet.

Nothing stunning or particularly valuable beyond sentimental value but I was really surprised to see them.

    Marlin 60

A 1915 Westing house mosin nagant ( I think, engraving is really faded)
A SKS, firing pin might be broken haven’t had time to look at it.
A Polytech M-14 with no magazines, probably in a box somewhere in the house.

My uncle is holding on to them for the time being until I can get more storage space.

Lot of good memories with most of those, learned to shoot on the marlins when I was around 7 years old. Used to have a lot of fun with the M-14 as well.

Don’t remember the Mosin from my youth but I’m not complaining 😂

The Chinese M-14 clone might be worth some $$$.

I have no idea if it’s a pre ban, it does have the flash hider but I can’t find a decent picture to see if it has the right bayonet lug.

I have a Polytech M14 I bought for $300 or $350 NIB. It was a great shooter from day 1. Over the years, I replaced some parts with USGI and had a NOS TRW bolt installed by a professional M14 smith. I still take it out to warm up the barrel. I don't think I'll ever get tired of it.

I was ecstatic when my uncle handed it to me. Definitely one of my favorite when I was a teen.

Now I just hope we can find the magazines. Not sure which ones to buy if I have to purchase some.

USGI mags have gotten stupid expensive. Checkmate brand mags are good, but still not cheap. I bought some Korean made mags a while back that I had to take a file to the locking lug to make them work - had to take a couple thousandths off before they'd lock in. There are some Taiwanese mags on the market I haven't tried, yet. Taiwan got M14 machinery back in the day from TRW.

Even if the stuff isn't worth much money, I can't imagine the thrill of handling a prized weapon from your youth you thought was gone. I still have the old Remington rolling back .22LR that I shot as a little kid with my Dad. Great memories!

That was a nice find Klauss.Listen if your dad was anything like me make sure they look at every corner, every drawer, every place, My son will have a hard time finding everything, I keep reminding him where everything is.
Sometimes I wish I had a Harry Potter's wand and make people go up into smoke.

My wife keeps bugging me to catalog my collection and include what accessories go with which firearm. Probably not a bad idea to include what I paid and what it is worth on today's market. That $300 Polytech M14S will fetch at least $1,000 today. She also wants me to include which ones I want to go to which kid - just in case.

It was at my grandparents house, and their entire upstairs they haven’t used in years is a mess.

Might take a bit to find them.

Pull out every drawer. Look on the back and bottom for taped documents/paper money. Look in dressers after drawer removal for stuffed papers/items being hooked and dropped. Check air vents. Some old houses have hollow door knobs with a removable plug easily removed with a table knife. Small items but usually paper can be folded and hidden in them.

If the closets have pipes for hanging pull them out and look through. Do the same to curtain rods.

If someone lived through the Great Depression they learned to hide things where a French convict couldn’t find them.

Junkies in the house is another non-acknowledged SHTF situation in which you learn to hide valuables or you get as violated as an eighty pound inmate.
