    M1 Garand Day

Touched off a few clips of Lake City and Greek HPX surplus M2 today. She felt good. Not too bad for old eyes and irons. Once I walked it up and found the sweet spot. Granted only 25 yds indoor range.

Good man 10-32 that is nice. Mine is still in the case I am afraid of it ever since my thumb got stuck in one of the damn things. The D.I.s foot in my ass hurt a tad bit more. 😀

Its a CMP Springfield late manufacture 1957-58. New stock and barrel. Also got a couple cases of the Lake City and Greek surplus M2. I wish it was in original stock but its a shooter. Haven't had the bolt slam on my thumb...yet. I reload with strong hand and hold the op rod handle back with the blade of my hand.

My son picked up a CMP expert grade on a local FTF deal with all the documentation and hard case for 1200 last year... Good thing dad loads 30.06 and looked up the M2 ball specs for Garand ammo.
I loaded 600 rounds for him with 150 grain FMJ bullets and BL-C2 powder, also found 35 Garand end blocs locally.

That is what I bought bill through our local VFW. Paid the same $1,200 out the door. Hell the damn case is nicer than the gun.. 😁
In A.I.T. at 'Tiger Land' Ft. Polk Louisiana. I was 11-H Recoilless Rifle and our squad weapons training was to be dropped off at the range fire a few shots next. Then quick back to the BIG rifle. Never even saw an M-16 till I got overseas.

Last weekend or so, my brother-in-law came to visit and we went out and shot Garands and his Sharps re-pro in .45-70. Had a rock that lasered out at 608 yards I was popping with Turkish surplus. Funny thing about the peep sight on those old rifles, bad eyes are able to focus on long distance targets through them. Same with the Vernier tang sight on his Sharps.

Then he asked me what I had my rear sight set at on the Garand. I couldn't read it without my reading glasses, so I couldn't say. He looked at it and said it was at 200. How was I hitting the target without adjusting up? I just adjusted the impact using my front sight - Kentucky windage. Had wind gusts at the target that would knock the slow moving .45-70 off by 6 ft. The fast '06 was only off by a couple feet.

Then he lasered another rock at 800 yards, and bet me I couldn't hit it. It took me three shots to get on it. That Turkish Garand ammo wasn't too bad. Wish I'd gotten more of it.
