I guess it's diet or die

Being overweight causes sleep apnea, which is apparently directly linked to pericarditis. I'm having another flare up of peri, so I started looking into what I can do. Apparently fat-ass syndrome is at least one thing I can take control off. Looking like a lot of salad in my future.

Cut out sugar and carbs. Look up ketogenic diet. I dropped 40 pounds without exercise. I had pre-diabetes, apnea and pericarditis...now all gone. Its easier than it sounds. Eat eggs and bacon, steak, chicken, pork chops, salads, certain veggies, nuts, some dairy. Avoid most fruit/juice (some berries are ok), pasta, rice, potatoes, bakery, grains, sugary drinks etc. Substitute stevia or monk fruit for sugar. Avoid fast food and processed foods. When you think about the layout of the grocery store, avoid the aisles. Shop in the outter departments. Produce, meat, dairy. Also avoid seed oils. Choose healthy fats like olive or avocado oil and butter. Learn to read the nutrition and ingredient labels and learn all the code words for sugar. Maltodextrin, high fructose corn syrup etc.

Best of luck with your weight loss. By all means, keep the rest of us informed of your progress. Losing excess weight is never a bad thing. Just the other day, I was carrying a heavy-ass truck battery down in the basement. I got to thinking as I'm walking down the stairs that some people carry this much extra weight on their bodies everywhere they go.

Just remember, every student in medical school right now is using Chat GPT or other AI to write their papers. They aren't learning a damned thing. Lose weight and get fit now so you don't have to ever go into one of their offices - because the dumbest, graduated at the bottom of their class med school student still gets to be called, "Doctor" upon graduation.

Weight is 246 right now. Last few nights I've been forcing myself to sleep on my side, which seems to be improving my sleep. Chick-Fil-A has a cob salad that seems OK. Diet Mt Dew isn't horrible (it only sucks).

Ozempic is too new for me. I don't like new drugs. Let the other people find out it causes a side-effect the pharma knew about but kept secret.

Diet soda is just as bad as sugar soda. That cobb salad dressing I guarantee you has sugar and canola oil. I don't even have to look it up. The food industry is good at making you think you are making healthy choices when you are not. There is no carb in the world good enough to make me want that 40 lbs back. The information is out there if you want it.

Yup. And after graduation, those same students will be crying the loudest "AI is taking our jobs!"

                  - Fewer calories, fewer carbs. Yes, probably other poisons in there, but I need a caffine source and coffee sucks.

                  - I get it with grilled chicken and the Light Basalmic Vinaigrette. I also skip the fried and seasoned peppers. It’s better than a few other options out there.

Oh, and I throw out the tomatoes. Those are just empty carbs, fiber, vitamins and nutrients.

I have found how to slow time down. Eat a sensible breakfast and then wait for lunchtime to arrive with no snacks. Time has stopped.

I’ve just found out that I’m diabetic, with an A1C of 6.5.

Readjusting my diet with my kids at home has been a royal pain. Switched over to the zero sugar pops but dam they are still bad tasting.

While eliminating most of sugar is not fun getting rid of carbs is the hard part for me.

Its difficult at first. After 6 months or so you get used to it and your results drive your conviction. Small weekly cheats are useful as a reward. Don't go crazy and use a glucose meter to learn what affects you more and less. For me I can grab a slice of pizza at Costco and see a gentle rise. Rice on the other hand spikes me hard so no sushi for me.

To OP, I'm not trying to preach, just share what I've learned. My way of thinking is taking metformin and eventually insulin is just managing the disease. Proper diet reverses it. If you want to go down a rabbit hole there are some very informative you tubers...

Different versions of the shots have

been around for a long time…

Do some research on the different

                        varieties…some have many different

                        health benefits…

I would not dismiss all of them

Taking a short cut with the shots is only temporary. The only way to keep it off is a proper diet and exercise. It's what determines your lifespan and how you will enjoy life. Take it from one who knows.

I know some people that have done

very well with the shots…They stayed

on them long enough to lose the weight

they needed and then they tapered off

                            of them…

I know more people that have used them

                            successfully than not…

The people who were not successful

                            quit without tapering off

If you are just craving the fizz, there are a bunch of fizzy waters on the shelf now that have zero calories in them. Some taste better than others. My favorite brands are Polar and Waterloo - they don't have that weird aftertaste other brands have. The Liquid Death, or whatever they are called, are good too, but hella expensive just for fizzy water.

Might try those, liquid death still had that nasty aftertaste for me.

really trying to get away from pop/soda completely.
