In this case, to keep China, Iran and Russia further away from us, they all have Listening Posts on the island, other than that it is a costly proposition.

Cuba was a US territory after the Spanish-American War, along with Puerto Rico and the Philippines and some other places. We should have cut Puerto Rico loose and kept Cuba as a territory.

Yes sir, at around 1900 or something like that, which makes my grandfather born in USA territory.

Making Cuba a state would have made a lot more sense than making Hawaii a state.

Oh no, from Hawaii we see everything in the Pacific Ocean, it's a great strategic point, it has always been. If it wasn't for the Russians, Chinese and Iranians in Cuba, I could care less about the island, but they are too close for comfoort

              December 7, 1941 would disagree.

Actually the Oahu radar base on the north end of the island (still there) picked them up but the information was dismissed by the higher ups.

I await the legal availability of Cubano Cigars and Rum. And the public hanging of Raul.

Dismissed because they were mistaken for a flight of B-17s which were due in. My money is on Roosevelt knowing damn well Hawaii was about to get attacked. Lot of Americans at the time were Isolationists wanting us to stay out of the war. Roosevelt letting the Nips attack Pearl would settle the getting involved issue.

Their rum is not what used to be. There are a lot of better ones in the market . I don't know about cigars, never smoked them, only a pipe. Someone gave my son a bottle of Cuban rum they brought back from the island and he gave it to me, pure crap. Don't forget Bacardi was a Cuban brand, they took off to Puerto Rico where it's made now, I've been there, big place, they also fought for and recover (in international court) the other brand they had..I forgot the name now.

Probably my favorite rum nowadays is made in Barbados. It's a dark rum called Mount Gay. Really.

Back in the day I loved a rum cocktail called "Dark and Stormy" made with Gosling's dark rum. Now...never touch the stuff. Also used to like a proper mai tai. Not the bullshit fruit juice concoctions you see but the real deal.

My son in law got one that was very, very smooth, it comes in a small black fat bottle and it's about $55 but I forgot the name, there is a bottle at the sanibel place, I'll take a picture next time I go (July 4th)

I like Bayou rum, made in Louisiana. I've stopped at their distillery a couple times along I-10, but never seem to make it past the tasting room for the tour.
