Utah made it legal to plug solar panels into wall outlets, and now 30 states

Utah has opened the door to a new kind of DIY clean energy: solar panels that plug directly into ordinary wall outlets.

According to UPR, Utah's first-of-its-kind law is already serving as a model, with lawmakers in more than 30 states and the District of Columbia introducing similar ideas.

House Bill 340, backed by Republican state Rep. Raymond Ward, cleared the Utah Legislature unanimously last year. Utah News Connection reported that the measure allows residents to run plug-in solar systems through standard household outlets.

I need to learn more about this concept but it sounds like a good idea.

It saves you a dollar a day, imagine that, a million days and it makes you a millionaire.

And to think we do not even live a million hours.

Bet let's look at the numbers. It's going to cost you at least $7,000 to get the system that means you need 7,000 days to get even, which is about 19 years....the typical lifespan of a solar panel in Florida is around 10 years, you will be losing $3,285 in 10 years. Panels lower their output by about 1% a year, however, Florida sun and salty air degrades them even more.

My idea of solar power is burning ants with a magnifying glass glass & the sun.

I know, I'm sorry. Actually I was listening to a couple of ham radio guys talk about it the other day and one who sounded quite old said "I wish they would have told me how long those panels were going to last, I have a few thousands dollars invested, never got any money back and they don't work anymore". It's all a fraud. Even my son wanted to get them, here is a scientist, super smart guy until I did numbers for him. He did buy an electric car though and he is ahead on that, for about $30 a month he goes all over the place....until the battery goes bad. Had to spend money in a certified electrician to do the hookup on both houses, his and the Island place. Look Lithium batteries have a finite life based on number of charges, panels get dirty and eventually cloudy limiting the amount of power they can produce, Not to mention all that metal on top of your roof is a lightning rod. Here we have hurricanes that will knock them off and take a part of your roof with them and all for what?...One Dollar a Day for five six years?

Alright I'm convinced. I'll just have to settle for a windmill in my backyard.

I had a good friend that worked for a large company that built large commercial projects and managed same. He told me a solar panel's life was 20 years maximum. Of course it starts degrading every year on the out put. Do some in depth research before you spend any money! IMO it's just another scam.
