Why spend $100 on a meal you can make far better for half the cost at home? Loud music, screaming coughing kids, obnoxius birthday shouting, mediocre food, high prices. To be fair, the salad and steak were ok. But I won't be back.
Texas Roadhouse, YUCK!

People don't know how to cook for themselves. And if they do, why bother? Go somewhere and have people lower than them do the cooking for them. Its the entitlement mentality these days. Sure, its nice to go out for a meal now and then. But, younger generations feel entitled to have someone else do the cooking for them. I think most millenials and gen zers don't even know how to pour a can of Dinty Moore beef stew into a pot and heat it up.Comment

Yesterday my brother stayed the weekend with his girlfriend. Whenever he shows up he brings rib eye steaks. I made a fire in the Webber grill with hardwood and let it burn down to coals. I tossed the steaks on the grill. About 15 minutes later they were medium rare and I pulled them off the grill. Delicious!
I normally grill beef and pork medium-well to well done. Yesterday, I made an exception and went with medium rare, 'cause that's what my brother liked. I was NOT disappointed.
Wife and I had all the essential fixings as well: baked potatoes (on the grill), fried onions and green beans with chopped garlic. Nothing we did was complicated. It was super simple. The only expensive ingredient was the steaks and compared to a restaurant, they were dirt cheap.
Don't get me wrong. I enjoy a meal at a restaurant, but it has to be MY kind of restaurant. A run-down greasy spoon or buffet restaurant is what I like the best. Fancy restaurants don't do it for me. I can't relax. It's not me. If I want a grilled pork, beef or chicken, I can ALWAYS do a better job than a restaurant. Always.Last edited by Johnny; 10-13-2024, 09:40 PM.Comment

I ate at one by me about a dozen years ago. As already stated the PA was blasting super loud hillbilly music, the AC was cranked to about 50 degrees, and the food was mediocre.
I haven't ordered steak at a restaurant now in years. I grill on my Weber kettle using only lump charcoal fired by an electric starter. It's pretty damn good, if I do say so myself.Comment

One of my greatest pet peeves is having to listen to someone else's favorite music at full volume. You'd think that as a long-time band guy, I'd be listening to music 24/7. Nope. Nothing could be further from the truth. Even music I like is something that is annoying if I'm trying to talk to someone across the table or concentrate on some project. If that music is something that I generally don't like, that just increases my annoyance.I ate at one by me about a dozen years ago. Example: For the past 4 days or so I've been building a shed. There's no radio, no music, just silence. When I'm concentrating on measuring, climbing a ladder, etc, any sort of music or talk show or commercial just distracts me. My brain can't process both.

I've always had a theory that places like that (bars, sports bars, steak houses) are designed for the person who can't talk, or doesn't want to. There are TV screens on every wall tuned to different channels. Music is blasting. People around you are shouting to talk. A person who's a lousy communicator would be right at home at a place like that. Aside from a few one-liners shouted across the table, there's not much they have to say.Comment

I agree. I cook my steaks way better than any steakhouse I've been to recently. Doesn't matter if I'm cooking with charcoal, wood, or propane, they always come out better than a restaurant - and I've been to some nice restaurants.I ate at one by me about a dozen years ago. McDonalds are building a new location near me in Groesbeck.Texas. I see it as a giant fail unless the got some king of grant money from Uncle Sugar to hire all the local shitskins. There's a Sonic, but no Dairy Queen in town.Small town rural Texas aint real big on McDonald's poison.
