My problem is after 50+ yrs. with them I know the damn place like a book I read a dozen times. Their are essentially two different V.A. systems. In the south here they are packed to the damn hilt with vets. Why?
Older vets want to get away from the snow and ice retire and come down here for the sun and fun. Across the sun belt the hospitals are like Grand Central station in rush hour. V.A.s up north? Busy but nothing like down here. Visiting Conn. seeing family stop at the V.A. and it was a different world. Busy but almost empty compared to what I have grown accustomed to.
D.E.I. and the WHO employee V.A. staff down here think they own the place and you better kiss their ass if you want help. I try to stay clear of them and work with the good ones both Black and White.
I've only been to two VAs: Grand Rapids and Cadillac, Michigan. I remember the Grand Rapids one being pretty busy, but Cadillac is never too bad. I'm always in and out with very little wait. In both cases, I thought the staff was pretty good. The only thing I use the VA for is yearly checkups; that's it. I'm in good health and hope it stays that way. I suppose the true test of the organization is how they handle someone with a serious medical condition. Hope I never have to find out.

They recently remodeled and rebuilt the Cadillac VA. It's twice as big as before, super clean, comfortable waiting room and modern interior. I didn't even recognize the place.

It stands to reason that VAs in the South are busier given that most retirees head for warmer climates when they retire. Wife and I did just the opposite. We actually moved farther North! Both of us like the change of seasons, even our cold, snowy Winters. Last night we got a few more inches of snow. It looks absolutely beautiful dusting all the pine trees. It's not enough to fire up the snow thrower so I'll just clear it by hand. I don't even mind. It's kinda like a free gym membership! When you're outside, dressed properly and moving around, it's not bad at all. In fact, it's downright pleasant.

The VA here is great. I don't know about elsewhere.

Few federal employees are in a position to resist anything. They are doing a small task on a huge project.

The Cadillac, Michigan VA is top notch. They treat me better than I deserve!
