Am I an old fart now?

At 49 years old, I've noticed my vision feels like its gotten worse over the past few years. Until then, I've always had excellent vision, never needed glasses. Through my employer, I have pretty good vision coverage. So today I decided to use it and get my first eye exam ever. And...... I'm nearsighted. I went ahead and used my vision coverage and ordered my first ever pair of glasses. They should be ready in one to two weeks.

If all this happened 15 or 20 years ago, it would have been a blow to my ego as I always took pride in having great vision. But today, at 49 years old, I really don't care. It is what it is.

Reading, I'm fine. Not perfect, but good enough to not need glasses....yet. Its stuff at a distance I need help with. This might explain why over the last year or so driving the forklift at work, I have to make three or four attempts at retrieving pallets off the higher shelves.

You're just a fart. You have a little bit before you're considered old. You're old when you can't trust your farts.

49? You're still a young pup. Enjoy it while it lasts.

LOL. Shit. I WISH I was 49. But I started wearing glasses at 47. 47 years of 20/20 not too bad I guess. Get the good lenses with transitions bi focals and photochromatic shades.

You're what us Boomers would call a "whipper-snapper".

I was in really good shape until I got into my late 50's, then the wheels started coming off. Eye cataracts (fixed with surgery), aching joints/osteoporosis (also fixed with surgery), some other tweaks here and there. I'm coming up on 70 in June but am probably in better overall shape than I was 15 years ago. Dropping about 25 libs and exercising has made a huge difference, not just physically but mentally. Just focus on the man you once were and resolve to get back into shape. You're never going to be 20 again but I know plenty of older guys who have made changes and are enjoying life again. You can do it if you believe in yourself.

old fart at 49? hell no, not yet, just wait, it gets much better than just reading glasses.

I've worn glasses since the second grade. Fifteen years ago, bifocals were needed. Also about fifteen years ago, I developed a growth on the optic nerve behind the eyeball. It's called optic nerve drusen. Can't see much of anything with my left eye. Just images. Turned 61 in April. I'll be forked if that happens to my right eye.

If needing glasses is a sign of being an old fart, I must have been one in the 6th grade.
Been needing bi-focals for years now but to darn stubborn to get them. Wear my glasses for everything except reading, then I just take them off.

I wore trifocals until my cataract surgery, started with reading glasses around age 40 maybe.

I just got a new type of soft contact lens that is basically tri-focals. They are friggin' amazing. I'd been wearing readers for close up stuff, but now I don't need them anymore except for really, really small print and can see the sights clearly on my guns instead of seeing a blurry front sight. Even better is they cost any more than my old lenses.
