    I did it again . . .

About 20 years ago I damaged the sciatic nerve in my left leg/back lifting sheets of 3/4" plywood. It took a long time (months) for it to heal and since I have taken care of how I lift or move anything. Last Friday I was adding a small bulkhead to the end of one of my French drains in my yard and damaged the sciatic nerve in my right leg/back. I didn't twist or do anything strenuous that I remember, I knew something was wrong when my right quad had a spasm and seized with pain I went to the VA doc on Monday and was prescribed Baclofen a muscle relaxer to help with the pain. The VA overnighted it to me so I started taking it yesterday and it helped a lot.

Today it isn't working as well for some reason which sucks because of the pain and I have an appointment tomorrow morning with an eye surgeon for a pre-op meeting for cataract surgery coming up in August. I can not take NSAIDs for pain relief because of the damage done to my liver from cancer. This sucks.

So fellas don't strain either your sciatic nerves especially when you're 75 years old.

I've dealt with it for some 30+ years. The surgeon said I could have simply bent over, not lifting a thing, and the disc just decided to bulge and unfortunately press against a nerve. It sucks for sure and the aggravation comes and goes.

I know and feel your pain. Lay with your back flat on the floor and rest your legs on a chair with the knees bent at right angles with our body, that will take the pressure off your back. It works, now getting up......well, that's another problem, I let you deal with that on your own. I complained about pains to my brother the other day..."WTF you want? you are old".
Sometimes I wish I had a Harry Potter's wand and make people go up into smoke.

Yesterday evening after my muscle relaxer kicked in I laid on my back and pulled my thighs to my chest with my legs folded (heels to ass) and held that position for a while. Then rolled over with my elbows touching my knees for a while. Those exercises hurt like hell but actually did some good. I had to do something so I would be able to walk to go this morning to see the eye surgeon about my cataract surgery coming up in August. This morning I did some more of those exercises and was able to walk with the help of a cane.

My brother is 81 y/o and is in real good shape for his age. When I talk to him he tells me about his aches and pains and then mine don't seem to be so bad. I share some of the same ailments as him but 6 years behind him.

You need to slow down some Bro. What we both need is some of them Vietnamese gals giving us massages followed up by them walking on our backs like the good old days in Nam.. Dinky would probably enjoy that too.
