Open thread to discuss your health maladies!

We all love to discuss our health issues, don't we?

My issue is a badly ruptured lumbar disc. Let's say it causes discomfort.

Let’s just say I used to be healthy until I got a minor chest pain while using a chainsaw….

Finds good orthopedic surgeon, get MRId, and then microdiscectomys as required. I did.

My health is pretty good for my age. My left knee was bothering me and I had it operated on earlier this year. I haven't had any pain in it since. The surgeon stated I might have to have a knee replacement in the future. But so far so good.

A quack chiropractor ruptured a lower disk when I was 30. I went to see him after I had pretty bad lower back pain resulting from too many leg squats at the gym (diagnosed as a slip disk). Luckily, I found a great neurosurgeon to operate on me and came out completely pain free. That was almost 40 years ago.

This past year I lost over 25lbs after knee surgery. Been on a modified Mediterranean diet of fish, leafy vegetables, fruit, olive oil & red wine. It's easy because I'm eating stuff I already like. No fast food, sodas, or anything that comes in a box. I have a beer once in a while, that was probably the one thing tough to quit.

All my vitals like BP, cholesterol, glucose are very good. I take zero Rx drugs, jus daily Bayer aspirin. I'm probably in better shape now than I was 20 years ago.

Stop the Aspirin unless under doctor's order, it can give you serous issues. I need one a day 89mg chewable, so it's dissolved by the time it hits my stomach, but be careful, it can cause GI bleeding.

                    Oh, where to begin....

Small dot of Lichen panus under the tongue.
Herniated disc in lower back, operated on once, no further possible.
Enlarged prostate like about all of us old farts
5 and counting of small basil cell cancers removed off my arm and ugly mug.

Getting old is not for wimps

I'm 60 and have no serious health issues. That said, my Dad died early, so I'm doing as many "bucket list" items as I can in retirement.

Back in the 1980s they wanted all men over middle age to take aspirin to prevent heart attacks. Then they found out the aspirin was causing internal bleeding in so many patients that the benefit of avoiding heart attacks was more than wiped out by the harm.

Western medicine is great at addressing acute conditions like a compound fracture.

But western medicine is abysmal at preventative medicine. Most of the preventative medicine suggested causes far greater harm than the thing sought to be prevented, which it doesn't prevent anyway.

Aspirin has been around since Bayer released it in 1899. It's been long proven to be a great tool as anti-inflammatory agent (preventing plaque buildup in arteries) as well as it's ability to dilate blood vessels and increase blood flow. I've had exactly zero issues with it over the years causing internal bleeding or any other side effect. I'll take it any day over other chemical blood thinners or other poisons big Pharma loves due to their high cost.

Currently doing Cardiac Rehab twice a week. According to the docs my gal bladder is 100% packed with stones. They want to take it out, but also want to wait until it's been 12 months since the 3 stints in my heart we installed.

At 59 1/2 my body was shot enough that the medical issues were enough to put me on a full disability. At the Social Security Disability hearing I never even went before the judge. My attorney said he has never screen a judgement without the the judge even seeing the person.

I literally worked my body into a total mess. The industry that I spent 36 years at is a well known destroyer of one’s health. Back in July I ended up in the E.R. Is sever pain. Out of desperation I ended going to a chiropractor. After seeing X-rays from a year earlier he said they showed many years of hard labor. I’m awaiting an epidural for pain management. I have been in pain my entire adult life. And people have wonder why I had such a negative outlook on everything.
