Sanibel Island, our favorite place in the world, The house survived the big hurricane a couple years ago with just a couple of lose shingles in the roof , bottom did get flooded so AC unit and water heater were replaced, owner died daughter wants to sell we had a great deal, half a mile from the best beaches in the world and we have deeded beach access at the end of the road. Should be closing in a week or two.

I knew you've been talking about getting a home on Sanibel for some time. I've been there twice, one of my brothers got married on a beach there in the early 80's and then a friend's daughter about 3 years ago. My wife & I had a great lunch at the Blue Giraffe. 😎

yeah, it's a little beat up now, all the condos in front of the water were damaged and are being repaired, all the houses at ground level were messed up too, the water came up eight feet, one of those 100 year storms that destroyed almost everything, only houses that were high and newer survived. This one was built in 1984 , totally remodeled in early 2022, just before the storm hit, hurricane proof windows and doors, I'm sure some water got in but left no mark and no mold, the building inspector checked carefully and I was watching over his shoulder. Whatever was in the enclosed garage under the house was disposed of, I'm sure it got ruined, most of the landscape got ruined too, salt water did a number but the island is coming back, most of the restaurants are open again and the stores. Only the big shopping center at Baily's where the hardware, grocery, liquor stores and movie theater is gone, Mr Baily says they are rebuilding to new code going up 10 feet with parking underneath, but it will take a couple years. The other big guy Jerry's center is still open. The beach is still a bit beat up but it will recover also. Dairy Queen is gone, Island Cow caught fire before the storm but they are rebuilding, the antique store is gone, the Jewelry store at the end of the main drag there is gone too. A lot has changed. This house is at Rabbit Road and everything there looks intact and all houses are in good shape.

My oldest pushed us into it "I know how much this means to you guys and to me too, do we go half and half on it". I have already spent a small fortune this year with my daughter's house and the upcoming wedding but you know what? Thank God we can do it and enjoy whatever time I have left, we still have reserves. It's been my wife's dream and something I always wanted. LIsted originally at $799K, came down to $699K, did my numbers as a Broker myself....."Here is the deal, $625K cash, close in 15 days and my company makes no commission" Their broker also did numbers and convinced them. Our only request, leave the sectional sofa and please take the cat's ashes from the house. The old man had a beloved cat and kept it's ashes in a pretty box with the name Sushi inscribed outside and a big sign on the outside box "Please do not remove"...sorry...I'm a dog person. I need to replace the two toilets, they are too low for tall people and a couple of broken shingles on the roof.

Was reading on the city bulletin board "If your home has a lake or canal on the rear, be careful, do not do yard work with your back to the water and do not allow small children or pets to get close to the water '....shit! I need a double fence installed.

I'd get a comfortable chair for that porch so I could sit out there and smoke my pipe and that would be all the furniture I'd need for that place.

That porch is a perfect location for wildlife photography, just need the vegetation to grow back up in a couple years. I gave up smoking my pipe after my surgery.

Your a dang good man buddy thinking of me like that. 😁
That is some dang good fishing down in that A.O. plus the whole A.O. is beautiful with wealthy peoples. Fred still ain't got back to me when I asked what is in the canals down there?
"Do NOT have your back to the canals when in your yard" He posted the sign the town put up reads. Holy sheeeet they told Wild Bill that when he was playing poker and we know what happened to him. I am thinking those salt water crocs they have in the Gulf waters down that way? Their starting along with those Boas moving up the Glades A.O.????

ADD: RTO I had two buddies down their Islamorada and Marathon they had houses. I used to fly down to Marathon and spend a week fishing. The good old days. 👍

We are working on what's called Generational Wealth. Grandchildren will be rich some day if taxes don't eat it all up.

Sanibel is mostly a conservation area, they have alligators, salt water crocs, coyotes, foxes. I think there used to be a panther or two at one time, and the protected rice rat...a tiny rat that eats crustaceans, just spotted one on the backyard of the house the other day, by the river bank. Birds of all sorts too.

Designate one member of your family to keep watch from the porch 'sniper' when your having a cookout in the backyard. My neighbor across the canal a few weeks back heard his dog barking crazy in his backyard. Be damned about a 6 ft. gator was chasing his GermanShepard on his lawn. WTF over?
He called the nuisance gator crew and he helped them catch it. Just held the rope they caught. Sent the picts. to his bar in S. Dakota and his buds are flippin out they all want to come now. Their callin him Crocodile Dundee.
